Gaming Sports Sports Before a Massive Football Audience
Yesterday marked Sony’s next step into appealing to mass audiences. We saw their hosting of the Fiesta Bowl, sponsored via their PlayStation Brand. This entailed some good old football and college gameplay, pun intended.
Out in the stands and on the field, PlayStation brought some of their mascots. And what is football without mascots? Well, it’s still football; but in this college game (congratulations to Penn State), we got a good dose of PlayStation with Kratos, his son Atreus, Crash Bandicoot, and Sackboy from Little Big Planet. The halftime show even witnessed a great cover of God of War 4’s theme.

Of course, what is a PlayStation even without some playable titles on the scene? A “Fan Fest” envoy appeared outside the stadium, giving attendees the opportunity to preview some of the latest titles. Just part of Sony’s initiative to bring mass appeal to the PlayStation brand. Not a bad onsite presence.

Even though there wasn’t much in the way of video games, Fiest Bowl did provide some decent PlayStation exposure to the college market. But only time may tell if Sony’s won over any new faithful or sales. Either way, it seemed like a fun sporting event. Maybe God of War 4 will find exposure in other big markets. Hopefully, we’ll have a release date before then.
