Grab Your Sword and Chef’s Hat, It’s Time to Cook!
Battle Chef Brigade, the part action-platformer and part puzzler, is ready to be served up on November 20th for the Switch and PC.
In Battle Chef Brigade you play as a determined culinary chef named Mina or Thrash, hoping to win an Iron Chef-style competition by wowing the judges. Before you can do that, you need to collect ingredients by battling and hunting ferocious beasts through various stages and dungeons. Once you have what you need, you’ll bring all your ingredients into the kitchen and whip up a magical meal by playing a match-3 game. It sounds like a weird combination, but that’s exactly why people are excited about it.
Battle Chef Brigade started out as a Kickstarter game back in 2014 where it raised over $100,000. Three years may sound like an awfully long time to develop a game like this, but one look at the trailer should put that thought to rest. It features an anime art style that is completely hand-drawn, filled with soft pastel colours. It’s definitely eye-catching.
Co-founder Tom Eastman of Trinket Studios, the developer, had this to say about developing for the Switch in an email to GamesBeat:
“Battle Chef Brigade has a lot of different types of gameplay that take different amounts of time, which is perfect for the versatile nature of the Switch,” said Eastman. “Players can earn money doing hunts in Brigade Town while on a bus and then challenge a chef to a Cooking Duel back at home on their TV!”
Battle Chef Brigade will cost $19.99 USD when it launches on November 20th. A PS4 version is in the works but won’t be released until a later date. Let us know if you’ll be picking it up in the comment section.
