Don’t Expect to See It For a Long Time, Though
Respawn Entertainment made a quick appearance at the Oculus Connect stage yesterday where they announced an upcoming Oculus VR game centred around war simulation.
“We really want to depict being a soldier in combat in a more fully fleshed-out and realistic way,” says CEO Vince Zampella in the teaser video. From the sounds of it, the team is interested in conveying what it feels like to be in the middle of a war, and not a sci-fi setting like Titanfall or Star Wars. The only other detail is that they are describing it as a “first-person combat experience.”
The teaser reveals a “2019” release window but not much else is revealed aside from a handful of quotes from Respawn bigwigs.
“We’re so excited to be working on a game that’s going to make an impact on the industry,” says Jon Shiring. Respawn has been playing around with VR ever since the company tweeted in 2013 about obtaining an Oculus Rift dev kit. Considering we’re talking about a studio that has more or less defined the shooter genre, we think its safe to say that Respawn has what it takes to make an authentic war experience like none other.
