Press Sneak at It Again
Pretty big news today as Kotaku was able to confirm the existence of a long-rumored Nintendo Switch game, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle after being sent some art assets. Although the art assets were asked to not be shared by this anonymous source, they do prove that the game is in development. According to the assets, they were able to glean plenty of details such as Ubisoft developing this Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle on the publisher’s Snowdrop engine which was used on The Division and the upcoming South Park: The Fractured but Whole.
As for the game, it will be a crossover between Mario with his goomba-stomping buddies and the annoying/cute Rabbids. The game appears to have turn-based combat, two-player local co-op, and some whacky humor too. A series first for Mario, there is some art showing Mario and co. using guns that fire off laser beams. Besides that, the game has eight playable characters including series regulars like Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Peach, along with four Rabbids dressed up as them too.
Earlier this week, Nintendo-experts, GameExplain also released a video about this game with details that corroborate with the report above:
Laura Kate Dale, who gained a lot of respect for nailing some specifics on the Switch before it launched, was the first to report on the rumor of the existence of this Mario and Rabbids crossover last November. Thus, she was right on the money for this one. Ubisoft and Nintendo have yet to respond, but we can probably expect to see Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle at E3 this year.
