First New BattleTech Game in Decades Coming This Year

Paradox Interactive and Harebrained Schemes Teaming up to Release Brand New BattleTech Title

Paradox Interactive, the publisher responsible for bringing the world Cities: Skylines and Stellaris, is giving us the first new BattleTech game since 1994.

BattleTech

What is BattleTech, you ask? Why, it’s only the progenitor of an entire empire of mech-based combat! From this franchise came MechWarrior and MechAssault, two household names in making enormous machines do battle in the war-scarred wastelands of the distant future. The series began its storied life as a board game back in the mid 80’s. From there players were introduced to mech combat through traditional role-playing games and eventually video games. While there have been an enormous list of mech combat games in the years since, few if any bore the BattleTech name. Now, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, players will return to the series’ tactical roots for the first time since 1994.

Players will be able to dive deep into the various combat, team management and PvP aspects of the mech world presented by BattleTech. The game is scheduled for release this year, though there’s no word yet on an exact date. If you’re a fan of turn-based strategy, giant robots, or both, this is one game to keep an eye on. In the meantime, check out the very first trailer below!
