Internet Sleuths on the Case
There’s some pretty strong evidence for Far Cry 5 being a spaghetti western and having a September 2017 release date due to a rather unorthodox combination of findings. The one that really got gaming internet sleuths Googling came from a local newspaper outlet, Great Falls Tribune, who reported on a local church being used in a video game. They noted that there was some filming going on there, and a producer on the shoot, Jeff Guillot, revealed that the filming was for a game that’s due in September this year. Besides that, he told the paper that the production was for a game that was “a sequel to an existing global franchise.” He also added that the game would be set in an imaginary location called “Hope Country”.
That on its own isn’t entirely convincing for Far Cry 5 proof, but there have been some other clues online that supports this latest news bit to be strong evidence for Far Cry 5 in a spaghetti western setting. Nerdbite also dug up Guillot’s LinkedIn profile and notes that the company he works for has done live-action promotional material for other Ubisoft games such as Driver, Red Steel 2, and Rabbids.
Besides the shoot, Ubisoft sent an online poll earlier in 2015 to Far Cry 4 players for future settings for the series that included zombies, vampires, Mad Max, and a spaghetti western tale in the late 19th century.
All of this info is still unconfirmed with Ubisoft holding its cards close to its chest until their E3 2017 conference where we’ll most likely get confirmation on these Far Cry 5 rumors. Of course, if the rumors hold true, then the game will also have to duel with a returning Western gaming classic, Red Dead Redemption 2 this year.
