Electronic Arts Announces Record Sales for 2017
During the quarterly conference call for investors and analysts today, Electronic Arts announced their preliminary financial results for both the fourth quarter of fiscal, as well as the fiscal year of 2017. They revealed a record breaking year, where Battlefield 1 and FIFA 17 played a huge role in the success!
Today, EA announced a very successful fiscal year, which ended on March 31st. According to CEO Andrew Wilson, the past year was a milestone year for the company and as they look forward to the 2018 fiscal year, he states, “We are focused on innovating for our players with extraordinary new experiences across our portfolio, continuing to grow our global network, and extending our reach across new platforms and more ways to play.”
On top of these statements from Wilson, Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen mentions that the company generated record net sales, which was driven by the ongoing transition to digital content. Jorgensen had this to say: “Our long-term vision, to leverage deep player engagement to drive growth and profitability, is enabling us to execute on our near-term financial goals to increase revenue, earnings and cash generation.” EA performed well in terms of digital net sales, with a total of $3.034 billion, representing 61% of the total net sales.
As if the record breaking sales wasn’t exciting enough, EA also revealed that they were the number one publisher on both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One in the Western part of the world during the 2017 fiscal year, at least based on their estimates! This could be due in part to the significant amount of players on both Battlefield 1, reaching 19 million, and FIFA 17 which passed 21 million players! This is a 50% increase over Battlefield 4! FIFA Ultimate Team also grew exponentially this past year with 13% more players since last year by the end of the fiscal.
