Xbox Fanfest 2017 a FanFiasco With Cancellation Emails

Mistaken Emails Sent Out to Guests of Xbox Fanfest

On June 11th, 500 lucky people will attend Microsoft’s Xbox Fanfest 2017. The gates of the downtown LA conference room will open, and those with a confirmed registration will be whisked in by the Willy Wonka of Xbox himself, Major Nelson.

That is, if they would stop canceling on people.

A user on Reddit received a cancellation email after being confirmed for the fest. Major Nelson was quick to respond, with the reply “This is unfortunate. The right folks are looking into this. Thanks for bearing with us.”

Xbox Fanfest 2017

Xbox Fanfest 2017 is advertising “Early Access” to Xbox’s hottest upcoming exclusives, Project Scorpio, and the biggest blockbuster games during a private fan event on Monday, June 12th. Top developers, personalities, and gamers will be in attendance as well. Project Scorpio alone is worth all the headache, but it remains unseen as to whether those who received cancellation emails are still allowed into Fanfest.

The contents of the email cancellation letter are as follows:

“On the morning of Wednesday, April 19, an error in the Xbox FanFest: E3 2017 ticketing process resulted in the number of registrants accepted significantly exceeding the number of tickets available in total for FanFest. To address this as fairly as possible for all fans, we determined we had to redo registration and void all confirmation letters and tickets processed on April 19, 2017. As you were one of the April 19 registrants, we’re sending this official notice to inform you of your registration cancellation and to notify you that we will reopen and redo registration on Wednesday, April 26th, 9am PT.

We understand this has been considerably inconvenient, and we never want to provide fans with an imperfect experience. So, as a token of our appreciation for your understanding, we’re sending you a complimentary 3-month, Xbox Live Gold subscription, the code for which is below.”

That sounds like a big “nope” to anyone who received this email. It’s also reiterated by Xbox advertising that registration will reopen on Wednesday, April 26th on their website as well.

Wednesday, April 26th? That’s today! It’s almost 9 in LA! See you chumps!
