PlayStation 1 Emulator Available for the Xbox One
No, your eyes are not deceiving you. There is an actual PlayStation 1 emulator available on the Xbox Store for the Xbox One… but not for much longer. Discovered by the team over at GeneracionXbox, the application you’d need to search for is called WinPDFReader and they detailed how to use it in a video over on YouTube.
They also managed to test a bunch of games as well, noting that the performance was quite good with framerates running between 35 to 60fps. A solid 85% of the time saw framerates topping 40fps. Games can be loaded from an external device such as a hard drive or USB key and tThe formats of the compatible ROMs are BIN, ISO, MDF, IMG, CUE, PBP and CBN.
Here’s the catch… you need to act FAST. As in really, really fast as Microsoft is pulling the plug (naturally) on the application later today. Microsoft has made their stance very clear when it comes to emulating other systems on their platform and the answer is a pretty hard no. While we generally don’t support emulation ourselves it can be hard to get a lot of these older games in any other fashion.
Did you manage to get your hands on it before it got yanked? How’s it working for you? Let us know in the comments below.
