You Gained the Power to Stream Persona 5 a Little More
Atlus has finally updated Persona 5′s heavily-criticized streaming polices by simply reducing it to just one rule: don’t stream after the in-game date of 11/19. Earlier this month, Atlus launched the eagerly awaited JRPG to rave reviews for North America, and then, preceded to ruin the celebration party in an official blog post on its site that outlined several restrictions for streaming the game. The earlier guideline had micro-managing restrictions that really put players into the shoes of the game’s protagonist who finds himself as a prisoner at the Velvet Room. Today, Atlus updated its streaming policy for Persona 5 to make it a lot less of a headache to stream.
Besides that, they also apologized for coming off as threatening to streamers with its older policy. In the older post, it was clear that the guidelines were coming from the Japanese department of Atlus who may have been a bit more out of touch when it comes to streaming. They were mostly concerned with avoiding spoilers, but lacked the insight that people who watch video game streams don’t care about that. The backlash to the post was pretty swift as many saw Atlus getting in the way of its fans wanting to share their love for a well-made game. In fact, Atlus’ own Twitter feed was bombarded with spoilers and other streamers found ways to stream to circumvent the rules of streaming past the previous cut-off date too.
Overall, it’s heartening to see that Atlus listened and changed its tune here. That said, the PS4’s Share button functionality remains disabled, meaning players are unable to easily save screenshots or videos from the game without the use of an external streaming device like Elgato. It’s also unclear if Atlus is still intent on carrying out account bans and flagging content ID on videos that violate that one rule. Hopefully, Atlus will update the game with a patch that gives us access to that button once again.
