Game Director Jeff Kaplan Hints at a Map Editor in the Future
Overwatch fans looking for more agency in their experience with the game, take note: Game Director Jeff Kaplan has made mention of a Map Editor.
Now, this potential feature doesn’t have anything like a release date or details of any sort whatsoever, however Kaplan did emphasize that this was something they wanted in the game. In his own words:
We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for Overwatch someday. But because Overwatch was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon. We have this on our long-term road map and believe heavily in user-made content. But there are many challenges ahead of us and it will be a very long road before our editor can be made available to the public.
This is great news! Blizzard games and map editors make good company. They can add immense replay value to a title already rich with it. Kaplan also spoke about players being able to save highlights and play of the game footage without any external software. While this feature also has no concrete release date, he was adamant that it would “be live before the end of summer.”
In the meantime, Orisa is live! Keep it tuned in to COGConnected for all the Overwatch details of any relevance.
