Can the Nintendo Switch Maintain its Earth-shattering Momentum?
President and COO of Nintendo of America Reggie Fils-Aime recently appeared on Fox to talk about the Nintendo Switch. Aside from sharing his passion, he also shared his optimism for the future resulting from its major success.
Seeing as the game can barely last five minutes on Amazon, we know it’s doing well. According to the great analysts of the block, SuperData, Nintendo’s console has sold well over 1.5 million units globally. Moreover, Reggie added that the Nintendo Switch is breaking records on a daily basis. In the United States, in particular, the console shows more momentum than its predecessors and handheld counterparts – the Wii and the Nintendo DS/3DS.
“The reaction to Nintendo Switch has been remarkable,” declared Reggie. “Every day we’re setting new records from a US perspective, meaning, you know, today I can look back and see how I compare to the launch of the Wii or the Nintendo DS or the Nintendo 3DS, and I’m setting sales records every day with the Nintendo Switch.
“The reaction has been fantastic. Consumers want it, I’ve been with industry peers, they’re excited with what we’re doing and hoping to drive the industry. I’ve seen the games, like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, right now the fourth highest-rated game in the history of video games.”
True enough, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has received consistent top-tier accolades. For our own in-depth review of the game, you can click right here. First-party games like Zelda have the potential to sustain Nintendo Switch’s momentum, but “momentum” is the key word here. While the console has done very well since launch, only time will tell if it can become a juggernaut in the industry and serve as the harbinger for Nintendo’s resurgence.
Switch’s outlook relies on their presentation for E3 2017. As stated, first-party games could carry the day. For President Reggie’s talk with Fox about Nintendo’s E3 plans, you can click right here.
