On Top of Earnings, Ubisoft Hints at Nintendo Switch Titles
Ubisoft has announced that their anticipated South Park The Fractured But Whole will see yet another delay. The news came as part of their earnings report earlier today. Thus, we now have the South Park’s second delay, following last year’s delay from December to Q1 this year. Supposed to release between January and March, we unfortunately no longer have a release window. All we know is developers are working hard to meet the expectations of fans.
But there’s positive news in the mix. Ubisoft was happy to announce that Watch Dogs 2 has built some much-needed momentum since its below average release. That is to say, the game is performing well towards their fiscal goals. In the same vein, their extreme Sports game, Steep, has had a “slightly higher-than-expected performance.” So some good news there.
Furthermore, within Ubisoft’s realm of shooters, Rainbow Six Siege reports its highest amount of daily players. The team-based shooter has gained incremental influence since its 2015 release, growing with more content and players. Then there’s The Division witnessing a 150% increase in player “engagement”; the open world shooter is still unveiling more content as time passes by, each DLC offering more exploration, enemies, and gameplay improvements.
Following these reports, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot made mention of upcoming Nintendo Switch games. The company will release Just Dance 2017 as a day one title, and even more games for the system as 2017 unravels. He calls these titles “very strong for the machine.” But once Ubisoft delivers its Switch games, he claims they will apply more focus towards its well-known IPs. It did not end on that note however. The company is still in early stages of producing their movie based on The Division. How that will pan out is anyone’s guess. Nevertheless, Ubisoft is looking forward.
