Spencer Takes to Twitter
With the cancellation of Scalebound, the lackluster lineup of exclusives and Sony killing it with Horizon Zero Dawn, Xbox hasn’t had a great start to the year so far. Sure, Halo Wars 2 is fantastic but Xbox fans have been looking for any kind of good news lately. If there is anything our main Xbox man likes to do, it’s interact with folks on Twitter and lift the spirits of Xbox fans. In a new series of tweets, Phil Spencer does his best to discuss competition and portable gaming.
Spencer kicked things off by mentioning that “gaming is not a race between two consoles, and good games aren’t weapons against other platforms.” He went on to say that Microsoft simply works to “make Xbox and Windows 10 great places to play.”
@Nick_Doran @XBX4LFE Gaming not race btw 2 consoles. Good games aren’t weapons vs other plats, We work 2 make Xbox/Win10 great places 2 play

In response to a fan that said it’s easy to take that position when one’s console is behind in sales, Spencer responded by stating it has nothing to do with Xbox’s market share, and gaming is a “much bigger opportunity than a two console battle.” That said, he agreed that releasing good games is critical.
@Nick_Doran None taken. Gaming has much bigger opportunity than 2 console battle, nothing to do with our share. Agree great games critical.

Spencer also explained why Microsoft decided to stay out of the handheld gaming game. Their view was that phones would take almost all of the mobile gaming market. So far that seems like a smart decision.
@davidfraley27 Our view was that phones would take almost all of the mobile gaming market mostly.

Spencer also mentioned that he thinks that the Universal Windows Platform will bring PC apps and games to Xbox One, bringing Fallout Shelter as an example, but he also said that the company needs to work towards AAA games.
Well that was an understatement. Hopefully things pick up for Spencer and company moving forward. We expect some big announcement this June at E3. Keep it locked on COGconnected as more information surfaces.
