This 2nd Studio Will Help Playground Games Built New IP outside Their Specialty
In a new endeavor outside the racing IP, Playground Games is officially opening a new studio. Aside from the fact that this new studio’s project won’t be a racing game, we know it will be open world. Furthermore, the studio developing this new mystery title will be located in Leamington Spa, current situation for the first studio.
Following the hit success of Forza Hoizon 3, devs are bold towards building worlds outside their current forte. Because of that, they are taking on new staff. “Opening another studio is something we’ve been talking about for a good few years, but we’ve been keen not to rush into it” says Creative director Ralph Fulton to GI.biz.
Naturally, the studio will adjust before taking on the challenge of open-world gaming. But devs have already demonstrated their potential with Forza Horizon 3. The game was more elaborate than previous racing titles and had a detail to customization players come to expect from open-world gaming.
Yet devs have no intention of leaving Forza. Follow-up titles shall be produced as the new studio gets underway. At the very least, Playground will be working on multiple titles from hereon. A great new state of things, considering their success. Fulton had more to say on the matter.
“Horizon 3 was a watershed game for us – it’s certainly our best-reviewed game critically, it’s our most commercially successful game as well. It’s the first time we’ve experienced that commercial breakout hit phenomenon – the other games have been successful but not on the level of this one. We want to keep doing that. In a way, that game took six years to make. So we want to keep developing that skillset and pushing new boundaries.”
