Confirmed by Activision, Destiny 2 Will Arrive 2017 and Expand on the Previous Game
During the earnings call for Activision and Blizzard, slides reported that Bungieโs Destiny 2 is coming Fall of 2017. This provides our first confirmation from publishers. In addition, their report comes out as follows: โFull Destiny sequel in 2017 to broaden the franchiseโs global reach, which along with follow-on content plans, sets the stage for growth.โ
Activision essentially points out the expansion of Destiny content through Destiny 2. Albeit, we do not know in what manner Destiny 2 will โbroaden the franchise.โ But we do know that it will be a complete overhaul of its predecessor. Hence, no bringing your first character for the ride; We are getting a full-blown sequel.
Additionally, thanks to our friends at Kotaku, we learn that much of Bungieโs stock is up for grabs by Activision if the game fails its scheduled release. One way or another, the game will be released this year. Bungie represents an independent studio thatโs built off the success of its previous titles. Nonetheless, its future will be substantially affected by this gameโs release window. Although they have been quiet concerning Destiny 2 news, we understand why; As a result of their early press releases for Destiny(weโre talking over a year before release), players were exposed to loads of content that never reached the final product. Bungie wants to avoid a repeat of this, eliminating misrepresentation and early hype.
But Bungie is not alone in the Destiny 2 project; three other studios pave the way for its multi-platform release. Last year, we learned that Vicarious Visions and Highmoon studios entered the fold, but nothing specifically allayed toward Destiny 2. Weโll know more as the days go by.
On a final note, there is a current rumor floating around, one alleging that Destiny 2 will be called Forge of Hope. Along with the cheesy tagline came news about game editions and so on. Well, Bungieโs Marketing manager had this response:
Forge of Nope.
