Japanese Review of Resident Evil 7 Reveals Length and Other Grim Details
A report from WWG has given us some fresh details on Resident Evil 7.
A recent Famitsu review of the game gives an approximate time to beat of 15 hours. This more or less falls in line with previous entries in the series. Which is good! The Resident Evil franchise is one that benefits from a tight, streamlined playthrough.
The review praised the game for its combination of nostalgia and new experiences. While the old Resident Evil adventure vibe is strong, the first-person perspective keeps things sufficiently fresh. So you’re still hunting for clues, keys and ways through rooms but with a modern twist.
WWG also discovered how scary Famitsu found the game. Capcom is trying to get back to the horror roots of the series, and this review suggests they’ve succeeded. On its own, the game is “terrifying,” but the PSVR elevates the horror element to new levels. Resident Evil 7 in VR is compared to “being tortured in real life.” We already know how scary VR can be (see the video below), and this is driving that point home. Horror games make up a genre that thrives on discomfort and dread. If Resident Evil 7 succeeds as a VR title it will write the playbook on how these games can go.
RE7 hits the shelves on Tuesday. Stay tuned for an in-depth review!
