PlayStation 4 Sales Were Crazy Over the 2016 Holiday Season

Want to know what 6.2 million represents? Earlier today Sony announced that was how many PlayStation 4 consoles were sold during this past holiday season! After record breaking sales on both Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as well as $50 off the PS4 throughout the holiday season, these numbers are not surprising.

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End Review Top Screen

During the same period of time there were over 50.4 million copies of PS4 games sold both as hard copy in stores and through digital downloads via the PlayStation Store. As of December 21st, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End reached a total of 8.7 million copies sold as well! This total is sure to be well past that following Christmas and Boxing Day sales though.

For those wondering when the holiday season were considered to have started, the press release explained where the sales data came from. Retail sales data was collected in North America and Latin America between November 20, 2016 and December 31, 2016, in Europe between November 21, 2016 and December 31, 2016 and in Japan and Asia between November 21, 2016 and January 1, 2017.

After this holiday season, over 53.4 million PS4 consoles have been sold globally as of January 1, 2017. It was a very happy holiday season for Sony indeed!
