Halo Wars 2 Open Beta Has Begun
Much to fans delight, Halo Wars 2 went gold earlier this week, and now players have a chance to play the game before it launches next month! Â An open beta for Halo Wars 2Â is available now on Xbox One and Windows 10. Best news of all? The beta is on from now until January 30th!
The download is approximately 12GB on PC and 10GB on Xbox One, offering a brand new game mode, that was made specifically for the Halo Wars sequel. The game mode is called Blitz, which offers a unique take on the RTS gameplay, combining deck building and card-based strategy with tactical combat, all within the Halo universe. In the words of the creator strategy is what the game is all about, from beginning to end. “Your card deck, along with your faction leader, are your greatest resources as you assemble a collection of air, ground and infantry units and seek to out-think and out-maneuver your opponents on the battlefield.”Â
Blitz is a PvP game mode that can be played in three different ways: 1v1, 2v2 and 3v3. The objective in Blitz is exactly like Domination in Call of Duty, except with a deck of cards thrown into the mix. The idea is to score more points than the enemy team by playing cards in your deck to capture and keep control points on the map. The only way to earn points is by controlling more points than the opponent. If both teams are holding the same amount of control points, then the scoring will be paused. Of course realistically this could go on for hours, so naturally there is both a time and score limit. As soon as the game reaches 200 points or 12 minutes, it will end.
This open blitz beta includes all of the leaders that will be available in the full game, each offering a different style of play with unique cards. Each leader can have three decks assigned, which can be either default or customized to specific strategy. The creators gave players a hint for the beta stating, “Your effectiveness on the battlefield is going to come down to quick strategic decisions but the most important decision you’ll make happens well before you jump into a match.”
Halo Wars 2 will be out February 21st but in the meantime have fun playing the beta! For full details about Halo Wars 2 check out the blog post here.
