Nintendo Search Traffic Exploded this November

NES Classic, Switch, Pokemon Go Helped Push Nintendo Search Traffic Well Ahead of its Competitors

A recent report from SimilarWeb shows Nintendo search traffic is pushing the brand with great success in the last month.

Nintendo search traffic has gotten a massive boost. The Japanese company commanded 101 main search keywords, compared to Microsoft’s 30 for Xbox, and Sony’s 52 for PlayStation. This jump is thanks to a series of hugely popular Nintendo products making their mark this year, including Pokemon Go, the NES Classic, Super Mario Run and the Switch. Other search terms, such as ones associated with Universal Studios, also played a part.

Nintendo Switch

All of this hype has pushed Nintendo well past Microsoft and Sony in terms of search traffic. Whereas their competitors are releasing improved versions of existing hardware and sequels, Nintendo has been pushing greater amounts of new products. Pokemon Go and Super Mario Run represent a two-pronged assault on the market, exploring new territory with high-value IPs. The NES Classic and the Switch capitalize on nostalgia and novelty, respectively. These are all factors calculated to generate massive amounts of buzz among consumers. With a new batch of info on the Switch coming out next month, Nintendo is poised to ride this wave all the way to March.

All of this momentum will help to push the company further from their losses associated with the Wii U. If Nintendo can maintain this level of user interest through the Switch’s launch next year, their future will be a bright one.
