So What Does it Mean for Console VR Going Forward?
An addition to console VR, gamers will apparently have a third viable piece of tech for gaming. Even following the unfortunate misfire of their Kickstarter campaign, British Startup MVR announced that it will release its brand-new headset for PS4 and Xbox One during Summer 2017. This VR Headset, officially titled Ascend H1, represents a neutral foray into console VR.
How it works is the proprietary Ascend S1 screen serves as the headset’s processor and display. Its designed functionality incorporates PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. At the same time, it can function with the PS4 through connecting to Android, just like Samsung’s Gear VR.
From there it’s in the hands of Sony’s Remote Play app or Microsoft 10’s game streaming service in order for games to come on screen. Simple enough. But wait! This VR is also compatible with PC games. You just need that free mirroring app on your display device, while a Nvidia graphics card for moonlight streaming is recommended. Hence, you have the most convenient headset for owners of multiple systems. And what might turn out to be the most affordable. Price points will most likely fall in between $200 and $250 in the American market.
As of right now, MVR has also developed compatible controllers. Their designs make their target audiences easy to see.
Along with their design, they are linked to the Ascend H1 and optimized for quick switching between preset titles. All the while, players can disable head tracking at the press of a button.
But as convenient and affordable as all this is for console VR, its performance won’t be known until release. Games may lag, albeit negligibly or alot depending on the title. Whether it’s offset by the price is up to the consumer. We’ll keep you updated until its Summer release next year. Until then, keep an eye out for COGconnected news.
