Canceled Suicide Squad Game; Other Batman Game to Take its Place

A Canceled Suicide Squad Game Does Not Mark the End for Warner Bros. Montreal

Warner Bros. Montreal has been in long-suspected development of a Suicide Squad Game. Now said game is apparently canceled. According to our fantastic friends at Kotaku, this comes from reports saying that the game in development “failed to impress” Warner Bros. executives at their greenlight meeting. Despite hinting the notorious group’s formation in Batman: Arkham Origins and the mobile title Arkham Origins Blackgate, a canceled Suicide Squad Game ends two years of work. However, now another suggested Batman title is to take its place.

What will this latest Batman game be about? All info points to a game about Damian Wayne. Yes, the son of Batman himself: the newest Robin. As for how it would work, there’s only room for speculation. No more information has been released for the suspected title, despite rumors of its development earlier this year. And we may be in the dark for some time, considering the recent Warner Bros. shake up.

In case you did not know, Warner Bros. has been moving their leaders around. Besides recent executives in the movie industry, Montreal’s studio head Martin Carrier and executive producer Reid Schneider have left the company. Now Stéphane Roy assumes the lead, originally the Executive Producer for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The studio’s direction under him serves another source of mystery. Though time will tell.

But what does seem certain is that Warner Bros. is reactionary to its fans. If the treatment of their cinematic universe(DCU) is any indication of how they treat their games, then they will rely on whatever name is popular to sell. Thus, a Suicide Squad Game may be contingent on resurgence of the name. That would simply depend on how intertwined Warner Bros.’ gaming and film universes are, whether or not one does inform the other. Until we get more info, we can only talk more Batman. But that’s not a bad thing, especially with a new movie anticipated for 2017.
