Call of Duty Player Base Drops Over 75% From Last Year

Call of Duty Player Base Drops 76% on Steam From Last Year

Probably not to your surprise, this year’s latest Call of Duty title, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, isn’t doing so hot. The Call of Duty player base seems to be moving on to bigger and better things, seeing that they’ve gotten a 76% drop in Steam players just from last year. As of now, the game has been out for only a month and only really manages to pull in 15,280 players at its peak hour. At its least busiest hours, they’ll average around 10-5K.

But unlike Black Ops III, which ranked as high as #4 on Steam last year at its launch, Infinite Warfare didn’t even make it into Steam’s top 20, with the highest number it ever saw on the charts being #27. Even so, now only a year later, Black Ops III gets an average of around 5,000 players per hour.

Even though IGN Spain claims that Activision has its sights set for the next Call of Duty being held in Vietnam, with an over-saturation of action-packed first person shooters out there, it’s not surprising to hear that their prized series might be creeping towards its sunset.

Call of Duty physical sales have also seen a significant drop in sales as well, being roughly half of what they saw for Black Ops III. 17% shy of their overall expectations. To balance out the physical decline, a special edition Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is offered to players with the Special Edition of Infinite Warfare, hoping the fan-favorite Call of Duty 4 will draw more players to Infinite Warfare and in turn make up for the loss in sales. But who knows? All we know is Call of Duty is going downhill, way downhill.
