WWE SuperCard Season 3 Coming Next Month
While I haven’t watched a WWE match in years, I’ve always enjoyed the culture around the sport and the authenticity of 2K’s WWE games in that regard. While I haven’t played the first two seasons of WWE SuperCard, a mobile card battle game featuring wrestling stars old and new, I could see that it captured the almost campy nature of World Wrestling Entertainment. With Season 3 of WWE SuperCard almost upon us, we got the chance to talk to WWE Champion AJ Styles and producer at Cat Daddy Games Adam Plotkin about the new season.
The game is set to release sometime in November as Season 3 of WWE SuperCard adds a plethora of features to a game that has made it a point to push out constant updates. Those who have played the first two seasons will be happy to know that Season 1 Cards can now be used in Season 3’s Wild Mode and Season 2 cards will be permanently retained and can be used in all game modes. Additionally, players can now battle in PvP against live opponents as opposed to an AI that would assume control of the player in past seasons.
The new Royal Rumble mode sees players battle against others as 15 cards are thrown into active play on each side to determine the last card standing. Producer Adam Plotkin spoke about the new mode and its higher level of strategy compared to other modes as such a large deck requires careful play. We also found out about the inclusion of three card tiers akin to other card battle games with players being able to compete for more than 100 new cards.
WWE Champion AJ Styles spoke about his experience working with game developers and talked about how impressed he was with 2K’s WWE series and his jealousy for fans growing up with such games today. Styles also spoke about his own childhood playing Nintendo games at the age of eight and how he considers himself a gamer.
In a lighter moment, AJ Styles was asked about the recent announcement of Red Dead Redemption 2 and he spoke about his love for the first game. On the wrestling side, Styles said Shawn Michaels and Randy Orton were the wrestlers he’d like to fight. About the actual game, I asked Plotkin about the advantages of the mobile platform and the producer told me the ease of access and always on-hand nature of mobile devices made it a perfect platform for the game the studio wanted to make. Plotkin also spoke about the game’s success and his delight at how far Cat Daddy Games has come since releasing the first season back in 2014.
It was clear to me the developers cared about their product and its source material. Watching YouTube videos of fans interacting with the game and really enjoying themselves made it seem like the decision to put a lot of effort into constantly updating the game has paid dividends. With more than 11 million downloads and a passionate development team behind it, things look good for WWE’s card battle game.
