LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters and Mission Impossible Packs
Ever since its release, LEGO Dimensions has received steady support via expansion packs. Recently, Warner Bros announced the release of six new LEGO Dimensions expansion packs based on huge franchises (Ghostbusters, Adventure Time, Mission Impossible, Harry Potter and The A-Team). These packs also introduce Battle Arenas, which is a first for LEGO video games, and Story Packs which provide a movie-based gameplay experience with a LEGO toy building experience. Warner Bros was kind enough to share the Ghostbusters and Mission Impossible packs with COGconnected and needless to say both packs are nice additions to the base game.
The Mission Impossible pack is essentially the first Mission Impossible movie told through a slew of shorts acts. Secret agent Ethan Hunt is being framed for the theft of highly classified materials from IMF and needs help to find the true villain. In the game you’ll infiltrate your way through the American Embassy, CIA Headquarters and more. You’ll use Ethan’s Camera Spectacles for the perfect disguise and wear the Magno Gloves to sneak up walls. Need to get out of dodge quickly? Just hop in your IMF Scrambler or IMF Sport Car.
As for LEGO toys, in the pack you get Ethan Hunt, IMF Scrambler and IMF Sport Car. What is pretty cool is how you can rebuild the Scrambler and Sports Car. For instance, you can turn your Scrambler into a Motorcycle or you can transfer your Sports Car into a Tank. Also, Ethan has a ton of abilities making him a pretty powerful LEGO character. The mission, should you choose to accept it (sorry folks, could not resist), will only take you a couple of hours to whip through but the entertainment value is high throughout.
The Ghostbusters pack doesn’t seem to generate the same amount of entertainment value as the Mission Impossible pack; however, on its own it is a rock solid addition. The movie has been out for some time now so the hype isn’t quite there like it was a couple of months ago but leading up to the DVD/Blu-Ray release the buzz should ramp backup again. In the game you will relive key moments in the movie as you take Abby Yates and her team of Ghostbusters on an adventure to save the world from a mysterious evil ghost. You’ll use Abby’s Proton Blaster to zap ghosts and she’ll need to use her smarts to solve the many puzzles.
The Ghostbusters Story pack also unlocks “Rip” which is a new Toy Pad mode allowing you to tear open an alternate universe. In this mirror world, you can solve puzzles and affect objects that can impact the primary universe. Like the Mission Impossible pack, the set also includes 3-in-1 buildable LEGO’s. The Ecto-1 (the Ghostbuster car) can be rebuilt into the Ectozer and The PerfEcto. Plus the set includes Zhu’s Chinese Restaurant gateway. If you’re a Ghostbusters fan, you’ll love but if you have had just about enough Ghost bustin’ to last you a lifetime (like me) you can take a pass.
Both sets are available now and can be purchased here:
