PS4 Firmware Update Drops Tomorrow
Last week, Sony announced that a new slimmer and lighter PlayStation 4 (PS4 Slim) with a 500GB HDD will become available in Japan, North America and in Europe starting from September 15, 2016. Sony didn’t stop there as they also announced the introduction of PS4 Pro which delivers enhanced experiences through improved image processing capability and support for 4K quality images. PS4 Pro will be available on November 10 at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of US$399. Today, we learned the latest PS4 firmware update is all about getting ready for the PS4 Pro.
This update will include an HDR patch that enables all PlayStation 4 consoles playback support of the feature. This is clearly centered around the anticipation of the PlayStation 4 Pro.

Quick Menu
- Music – This will enable players to quickly access their Spotify music and get back to their game
PlayStation 4 Pro Updates
- 1080p streaming for Remote Play on PC/Mac and compatible Xperia devices
- 1080p streaming for Share Play
- 1080p 30/60fps live broadcasting on YouTube
- 1080p 30fps live broadcasting on Twitch
High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- All PlayStation 4 consoles to be HDR capable
What’s New
- Complete redesign of the “What’s New” tab featuring the players Activity Feed
Content Info Screen
- Redesigned and can be accessed by pressing down on the d-pad while highlighting a game
Data Transfer to New PS4
- Easily transfer PlayStation 4 storage to those who upgrade to a Slim or Pro model
In addition there are some new UI changes that were previously revealed to allow players to access the menu while staying in game and of course the new folders options will be added.
