September Games with Gold Lineup Announced
Microsoft looks to bring the heat this September to the Games with Gold lineup. First off, they don’t have a looming price increase like PlayStation Plus but it’s another insanely solid month of games. As usual, we’ll see four games hit the lineup with two for the Xbox One and tow for the Xbox 360. Of course, if you have an Xbox One you’ll be able to play all four as they’ll be available via the backwards compatibility feature. Let’s get into it!
Earthlock: Festival of Magic – Sept 1 to 30 – Xbox One
Earthlock: Festival of Magic was the first title announced a few days ago. This westernized turn-based RPG, which in subtle ways reveals its Scandinavian origin, starts as a simple quest, but develops into a deeper journey. Play as Amon and join several unlikely heroes to save Umbra, a beautiful but harsh world that mysteriously stopped spinning thousands of cycles ago. Mix up your strategy to beat your enemies by crafting ammo and materials, harvesting elemental plants, and customizing your characters’ talent tree.
Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China – Sept 16 to Oct 15 – Xbox One
The first in the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles series of games, China will be available starting Sept 16th. A unique take on the AC world it is a 2D adventure that while fun, did have some buggy gameplay that hampered the experience just a little. In the end, our reviewer still really enjoyed this fresh take on AC and now you can too… well on Sept 16th you can.
Forza Horizon – Sept 1 to 15 – Xbox 360
No surprise here! With the release of Forza Horizon 3 looming, why not get your engine revved by diving into the game that started it all. Forza Horizon was a new take on the Forza series that received universal praise upon its release. Our own review, written by our most long-winded writer, eventually came in at a 90 and he summed up by saying, “With a good mix of simulation and accessibility, new open road exploration, the freedom to get away from closed tracks, and some great visuals and sound, I found I could not stop playing and neither will you.”
Mirror’s Edge – Sept 16 to 30 – Xbox 360
Mirror’s Edge introduced us to the world of free run parkour in those glorious red and white tones and introduced us to main protagonist, Faith. While Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was generally well received it didn’t quite live up to the hype built upon it by the legions of fans from the first game. A bonafide cult hit, Mirror’s Edge took many gamers by surprise and if you’re one of the few who didn’t play it you can get it for free in just under a month!
