Microsoft Wants To Earn Its Title
It looks like ReCore is going to be a triple AAA title for only $40. On the TXR Podcast earlier today, Aaron Greenberg who is the marketing manager for Xbox chimed in on the reasoning behind such a low price point.
The decision was based on the fact it’s a brand new IP, and to compete with other massive franchises with a dedicated fan base, dropping the price will entice people to try it. Even with Mega Man’s creator Keiji Inafune at the helm, it’s unsure how it will be received.
Aaron discusses how Microsoft needs to earn the gamer’s money, and by launching it close to the holiday season it might sway more interest in their favor.
“With new IP like that…ideally, launch timing matters a lot. So that’s why you’re seeing us launch it as our first title of the season; it’s coming in September,” he said. “So getting out early. The second thing is it doesn’t have an existing base of fans so we have to build that fan base. Rightly so, [gamers] are very thoughtful about, ‘Where do I want to spend my money?, ‘What games do I want to buy? So we kind of have to earn their vote; we have to earn their trust; we have to earn their dollar.”
“We wanted there to be no barriers. We wanted to be able to give you a great AAA that gives you $60 of value but if you aren’t sure, not let that be the barrier of a tradeoff of, ‘Hey there’s a $60 game and there’s this game.’ We wanted you to be able to get in.”
Greenberg also went on to mention how the E3 demo was too difficult and they are fine tuning it just in time for release. ReCore arrives on September 13 for Xbox and PC, buy it digitally on Xbox to get the PC version free with Xbox Play Anywhere.
