The Powerful PS4 Neo To Launch This Year According to Report

PlayStation Neo Coming Out This Year?

According to a new report Sony’s more powerful PlayStation 4 Neo will launch before the end of 2016. That means it would launch nearly a full year before Xbox’ Project Scorpio console which was announced at E3.

Eurogamer’s Richard Leadbetter stated the following in a recent article:

“Several sources have indicated to me that PlayStation Neo launches this year, despite its E3 no-show. If that is the case, it’ll be interesting to see how developers utilise its resources, and whether 4K really is the focus. And we can be equally as sure that Microsoft will be watching just as intently as it gears up for its own next-gen roll-out.”

Days before E3 Andrew House confirmed two things: The PS4 Neo is a thing, but it will not be shown at E3. The system is intended to be sold alongside the PS4, as House noted “It is intended to sit alongside and complement the standard PS4, we will be selling both [versions] through the life cycle”.

Microsoft announced Project Scorpio during its E3 briefing and describes it as “the most powerful console ever made.” Scorpio features 6 teraflops of performance and is scheduled to come out holiday 2017.

Official pricing has not been announced for the Neo or Scorpio. In both cases, the games that work on PS4 and Xbox One today will also be supported on the new systems.

If the PlayStation Neo is coming out this year, some possible venues for Neo’s announcement might include Gamescom, Tokyo Game Show, or Paris Games Week. We will just have to wait and see.
