Infinite Warfare Pre-Order Sales Are Way Off Last Years Pace
If pre-order sales are any indication how well a game will do when it eventually hits retail, then the Call of Duty franchise is in some serious trouble. VGCharts has updated their estimated pre-order data and Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare has a scary low number of pre-orders.
According to VGCharts, Infinite Warfare pre-order numbers as of May 14, 2016 are 30,455 for Xbox One and 33,014 for PS4.
Around the same time last year, Black Ops 3 pre-orders were significantly better. In fact, it was not even close.
Pre-order sales for Black Ops 3 as of May 16, 2015 were 423,456 for Xbox One and 287,509 for PS4. Staggering difference isn’t it?
It is difficult to not be a little skeptical of those numbers but if they are in fact true, Activision must be concerned. Call of Duty has been the bread and butter for the publisher for what seems like an eternity, so to drop off last years pace in such a significant manner must have Activision brass scrambling. The pre-order numbers for this year are so low that if you combine Infinite Warfare’s PS4 and Xbox One versions, they fail to even come close to the pre-orders of the Xbox One version of Black Ops 3 from last year.
You’ll notice the PS4 version of Infinite Warfare is tracking ahead in pre-orders. This is a bit of a shift for the franchise and that likely has something to do with the fact the DLC will once again arrive first on PlayStation consoles.
We remain a little puzzled by the numbers. Could the low pre-order sales be due to the Battlefield 1 reveal? This could be the case as the reveal trailer was extremely well received by the masses.
The market is also inundated with AAA shooters like Overwatch, Battleborn and DOOM, so perhaps people simply deciding to play something else.
