Overwatch Beta Is Imminent And Here’s The Rundown

Get Heroic On May 4th (But Only For A Little Bit), in the Overwatch Beta

Many lucky souls have gotten to get their hands on Blizzard’s next big IP. Those who have their eyes on this title can expect to try the actual product shortly, as the Overwatch beta is going live on May 4th, and will run until May 9th.

The Overwatch beta is poised for a simultaneous release for all regions, and players can expect an absolute bevy of content to experience, uncharacteristic for a beta (but certainly not unappreciated!). The details are as follows:

  • All 21 heroes accessible
  • Quick Play, Play vs. AI, Custom Game, and Weekly Brawl modes
  • Tutorial, Practice Range, and Practive vs. AI
  • 12 maps and 4 multiplayer modes
    • Assault: Hanamura, Temple of Anubis, and Volskaya Industries
    • Escort: Dorado, Route 66, and Watchpoint: Gibraltar
    • Assault/Escort Hybrid: Hollywood, King’s Row, and Numbani
    • Control: Ilios, Lijiang Tower, and Nepal

Suffice to say, Blizzard is banking a lot on this title, and showing this amount of content in the beta phase of the game, is reassuring, to say the least. Blizzard’s notorious for putting that extra bit of polish onto a game, especially when it’s a new IP, and that’s especially apparent in the gameplay footage that those outside of the beta have had to subside on. Progress made in the beta will not be carrying over to the main title, but don’t let that stop you from logging some serious time with the game.

The beta will set PC users back by about 6.5 GB (or roughly 6 or so episodes of their favourite TV show they acquire via legal means.), but those on console can expect a bit of a heftier download, clocking in at 11 GB. Console players also need to bear in mind that while Xbox users will require an active Gold Subscription, those on PS4 will not need an active subscription to PS Plus. The schedule for both Early Access and Open Access are as follows:
