A recent presentation by the developer of the free-to-play game World of Tanks predicts that the PS4 will continue to lead the Xbox One in sales well into the future. In fact, according to the data put forth in the presentation, the PS4 is predicted to sell 69 million units by 2019. That compares to the 39 million units that the Xbox One is predicted to move by that same time.
The presentation was apparently made at Game Developers Conference by World of Tanks developer Wargaming’s Creative Director TJ Wagner, and has only now been made public. It also goes on to claim that there are currently 36 million active PS4 users, as compared to an estimated 19 million users on Xbox One. These numbers apparently come from third-party sources such as Superdata, IDG Consulting, and IHS.
While not confirmed by Microsoft or Sony, these user numbers do pretty much match with data revealed recently. For example, Sony said in January that it has sold 36 million units of the PS4, and Microsoft has claimed 18 million users recently as well. The predicted sales for the year 2019 are something new, however.
All of this comes on the heels of a string of recent sales wins for Sony’s latest-gen console over its rival, the Xbox One. In fact, as we recently reported, the PS4 has even begun to widen its sales lead over Microsoft’s latest console, which saw disappointing sales after the release of Titanfall, which it hoped would give the Xbox One a boost.
