Lately the rumors of a more powerful PS4 in development have hit a fever pitch. Sony has yet to confirm the reports, but many articles have called it the “PS4.5” or “PS4K”. Bottom line, it’s reportedly a more powerful model of the current PS4 and it’s capable of displaying 4K.
In a new report from The Wall Street Journal today citing sources “familiar with the matter”, an announcement for the rumored 4K-capable PS4 could be coming prior to the launch of PlayStation VR this October.
Maybe this announcement will be made at E3?
The report goes on to say that production would continue on the existing PS4 hardware; however, the “4.5/4K” model would be able to handle “ultra high-definition resolution graphics” and “higher-end gaming experiences” which would offer a better technical and graphical performance compared to the current PS4.
The report from The Wall Street Journal backs up several of the previously-reported rumours about the enhanced PS4 model. Including sharing the software library of the current PS4 and its intention of providing greater technical fidelity to the console, along with helping to support the PSVR this fall.
While the report sounds promising, Sony has not officially commented on rumors or reports.
