If you bought a Nvidia Shield tablet between July 2014 and 2015, you may be entitled to a replacement. It seems that this device is reaching dangerous temperatures and as of July 31st, anyone with a Shield tablet that has the battery type Y01 can send it in for a new product. Approximately 88,000 devices are suspected to malfunction, all of which were sold in either the US or Canada. If you think you’ve been affected, you can check your battery type by following the directions on the Nvidia recall registration page: http://tabletrecall.expertproductinquiry.com/registration/registration.
This is bad news for Nvidia as their Shield products, while enjoyed by loyal fans, haven’t really broken out into the market yet for mainstream casual use. With issues like this, new users who were considering purchasing the device are now sure to think twice before shelling out cash for a potentially dangerous piece of hardware. As of right now, there have only been four reports sent to Nvidia with two of those actually causing damage to an owner’s floor but no chances are being taken. Customers are urged to not use the device further, unless required to register for the recall. You can also reach the Nvidia hotline from this number: 1-888-943-4196.
