Gree’s Vancouver Studio Shuts it’s Doors, Cancels All Games

The Vancouver BC office of mobile giant Gree, developer of mobile powerhouses like Knights and Dragons and War of Nations, has shut down operations, effective immediately. Gree COO Andrew Sheppard made the announcement via the Gree blog:

Effective immediately, GREE International is shutting down our office in Vancouver, Canada and discontinuing the development of all mobile games from that studio … I want to personally thank the GREE team in Vancouver. It has been an honor and a pleasure to work with you here. I wish that our journey together could continue, but I take solace in knowing that you will see success in the future. Please don’t be shy about sharing your wins with us.

The move comes as another blow to game development in Vancouver and abroad, with recent layoffs and studio closures constantly in the news. Most recently, Visceral games trimmed it’s bottom line, and Vancouver developer DeNA downsized it’s staff. COG is keeping it’s collective ear to the ground for more.
