Dead Island franchise publisher Deep Silver pushed back the sequel to Dead Island to 2016 today – bad news for fans of the series who had hoped for a new release of the zombie-killing title this year.
Delivering the news via Twitter, Team Dead Island 2 stated that they “have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn’t reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet.” The company promises that the move is a good one for the game, as “everyone will get a better game to play” when the delayed game is released next year.
The move comes in the wake of another delayed title for Deep Silver, Homefront: The Revolution, which was moved to 2016 back in March. That delay was prompted by Deep Silver’s takeover of the series from Crytek, and the subsequent upheaval of moving development to a new studio.
Dead Island 2 was revealed at E3 last year, and wowed audiences with its gorgeous graphics developed on the Unreal Engine 4. It promised crazy new handcrafted weapons, sprawling California locales such as Venice Beach and the Golden Gate Bridge, and 8-player multiplayer co-op.
