ESPN Host Says He Would Quit Before Covering Video Games

ESPN Radio’s Colin Cowherd, Host of popular sports-radio show The Herd, ripped into his own network on a recent show.  Criticizing ESPN2’s coverage of last weekend’s Heroes of the Dorm E-Sports tournament, Cowherd pulled no punches in ridiculing the idea that video games should ever be covered by a sports network.  He promised that, if he was ever “forced to cover guys playing video games [he] would retire.”

While the music from Tetris played in the background, Cowherd mocked the tournament’s participants, and all the “nerds” who play video games seriously.

“Somebody lock the basement door at mom’s house and don’t let ’em out,” he ranted. “I tagged out at Harry Potter. I tolerated Donkey Kong. I’ll tell you what that was the equivalent of there: of me putting a gun in my mouth and having to listen to that. Unbelievable.”

The tournament Cowherd was discussing was hosted by Blizzard, who offered prizes of free tuition to winners of the game Heroes of the Storm.  It was the first-ever video game tournament to be shown by a major television network.
