PS4 Exclusive God of War Will Feature Boss Fights With a New Twist; Dev Defends Lack of Jump Button

Barlog Reveals New God of War Info

The upcoming PS4 exclusive God of War is one of the console’s most anticipated games next year. It marks the return of a key franchise in Sony’s first-party catalog and aims to shake up the series’ formula by focusing on Norse mythology and telling a more intimate story featuring Kratos and his son. Recently, Cory Barlog (God of War Director) confirmed a few interesting little nuggets of information about the game in an interview.

In the interview, Barlog confirmed God of War will have optional boss fights. We’re not quite sure how boss fights can be optional but this what he says and marks the first time the series will have such a feature. Previous God of War games forced you to play out those boss fights.

Additionally, he confirmed Kratos can increase his health bar. This is nothing new to the franchise as this is something we saw in previous games. That being said, the way to do so will not be similar. How will it be different? Well, unfortunately, Barlog provided no further details as to how this will actually work in the game.

Barlog also clarified his recent comments about the boat travel in the game. Some fans have been concerned there might be too much boat travel. But no need to get your underoos in a twist, Barlog said there are a lot of fun interactions that happen during these segments. He assured fans have nothing to worry about as the game is not merely about the boat traversal.

He also addressed fans outrage over the lack of a jump button. Yup, folks have been mad about this… Again, Barlog stated there is nothing to worry about the lack of a jump button and players will not miss it in the game.

So there you have it. Are you picking up the game? Tell us in the comments below.
