Insomniac Games Talk About the Possibility of a Sunset Overdrive Sequel
Three years ago, Insomniac Games came out with a unique open world third person shooter: Sunset Overdrive. While there hasn’t been much talk about the game lately, in a recent Twitter exchange with a fan, the developer discussed the possibility of a Sunset Overdrive sequel.
Sunset Overdrive combines crazy weapons, mutants and energy drinks for a unique experience, and it received quite the positive reception within the industry, including our review where we gave it a 90. Despite a promising start, it just failed to perform. Even after numerous discounts over the months following its release, according to VGChartZ, the Xbox One exclusive sold just over 1.16 million copies. If you’re subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass program, you will be able to try it out, or revisit it, for free, however if you want to pick it up, you can do so here.
Even though it may not have sold as well as the developer would have liked, there are many who have been holding their breath, waiting for the announcement of a sequel. Well, prepare yourself, because although Insomniac did not confirm or announce a sequel, they have confirmed they would love to create it! You can check out what they had to say to a fan asking for a sequel below.
we'd love to, we just need to find a publisher!

Of course, Insomniac’s enthusiasm to make a sequel is not the only take home from the tweet. It seems that unfortunately Microsoft is not interested in making a Sunset Overdrive 2, at least not right anyway. With that said, the IP does belong to Insomniac, so should a publisher want to help make it possible, Insomniac has every right to take it elsewhere, and even to different platforms. Can you imagine Sunset Overdrive on the Nintendo Switch or PlayStation 4?
