Stardew Valley Creator Discusses What’s in Store for His Next Game

Eric Barone Talks With Fans on Reddit

The creator of Stardew Valley, Eric Barone, took part in a recent Reddit AMA where he discussed his popular farming sim as well as his thoughts on his next game.

Despite confirming that he is working on a new game, Barone was hesitant to reveal much of anything because “creating hype too far in advance is a lot of pressure, and ultimately I don’t think it benefits anyone. I prefer to work in an isolated bubble.” This is absolutely true for anyone who has read the book “Blood, Sweat, and Pixels.” One chapter details Barone’s tumultuous development of Stardew Valley.

With that said, Barone is approaching his next project with a similar mindset: “take a style of game that was never fully realized (or that changed trajectories, leaving unexplored possibilities), and carry on the tradition in my own weird way. ”

Barone was quick to mention that it won’t be a sequel but he does intend to explore some of the lore he had created for Stardew Valley that he cut from the final game. Most importantly, Barone has learned a lot from his time developing his last game and is interested in taking bigger risks with it.

“With my next game I want to go all out with my ideas, take things to the extreme, create an even richer and more detailed game world,” said Barone. “And delight players with continuous hand-crafted experiences.”

Stardew Valley was released in early 2016 but was recently ported over to the Nintendo Switch last week. What do you think about Barone’s comments about his next game?
