Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle Reigns as Switch’s Best-Selling Third-Party Game

Nintendo to Publish the Title for South Korea and Japan

When it first leaked, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, gamers were skeptical of the odd mashup between Mario and Rabbids. Plus, Mario was using a hand cannon in an XCOM-like game. Despite that, the title has been a bonafide hit as it is now the best-selling third-party game on Nintendo Switch. The victory comes from the physical sales tracked in the US and Australia from NPD and UK company Chart-Track GFK.

While it’ll be interesting to see the numbers for Sonic Mania, Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will continue to reign supreme as a non-Nintendo Switch title. Eurogamer also reports that the success has given Nintendo the confidence to publish the game in Japan and South Korea for a January 18, 2018 release. I had no idea that the title hasn’t reached Japan yet, but it’ll be interesting to see how the title will do there.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle has been out for almost a month on the Nintendo Switch, and beloved by many critics including us. 2017 will go down as one of the best years in gaming with so many great gaming experiences, but this title deserves a mention for being an underdog with tremendous bite.
