Franchise Popularity, Game Popularity, PSVR, and Developer Statements Make Alien Isolation 2 a Given
Next month’s PlayStation Magazine drives an incredibly optimistic rumor. Now that production’s wrapped up on Halo Wars 2, Creative Assembly is looking to the sequel to 2014’s Alien Isolation, the sci-fi horror game that stayed true to its film source material.
While the suspenseful horror game set in the eerie world created by Ridley Scott was Creative Assembly’s first gambit outside RTS, it proved to be a smash hit. And while it wasn’t the commercial success Sega had hoped for, it still sold over 2.1 million copies and launched to critical raving. Hence, there is a stronger and yet stronger possibility for a sequel, especially when looking at the Official PlayStation Magazine for the month of May.

”Our sources tell us that after work is finished on Halo Wars 2, a new Alien game may start development over at Alien Isolation dev, Creative Assembly.”
Furthermore, studio director Tim Heaton has previously stated that a sequel is ”not out of the question” and that ”there was more to be said.” And we know the developer is currently expanding with their acquisition of Crytek Black Sea, now named Creative Assembly Sofia.
Additionally, according to game designer Gary Napprethe, developers and concept artists have been tossing around solid ideas for Alien Isolation’s new story direction. Add this to the fact that Sony will soon need a new standard-bearer for PSVR after Farpoint is released. The first-person perspective, impeccably detailed environment and true snapshot of the Alien universe could hardly offer a better pairing.
The renewed popularity of the Alien franchise, too, provides ideal leverage for lifting another Alien Isolation off the ground. Alien: Covenant releases on May 19, and we suspect more such films in the future.
