30 Million PLN Gives CD Projekt RED Room for Innovative Game Creation
To be clear, the Polish government is fulfilling CD Projekt RED’s request for funding geared towards “city-creation,” “seamless multiplayer,” “cinematic feel,” and “animation excellence.” These are four separate requests for their R&D department, all of them approved.
While this news does not guarantee we will see any of these new features in the near future, it gives us a good sign of where CD Projekt Red has their heads. The Witcher 3 developer is already famous for giving us one of the best games of 2015, best in terms of quality and cinematic storytelling. To think they’re trying to build on their potential with better technology means we could be in store for a new level of AAA titles. How different and seamless is something we’ll know farther along. But the exact request detailing the purposes of funding can be found below:
- City Creation – Comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”, playable in real-time, cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation and taking into account the development of innovative processes and tools supporting the creation of high-quality open world games.
- Seamless Multiplayer – Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.
- Cinematic Feel – Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools.
- Animation Excellence – Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.
Furthermore, CD Projekt Red was just one of several developers to receive some new funding. Among them were more Polish game developers: Flying Wild Hog, Techland, CI Games, The Farm 51, and Bloober Team; each with their own ideas towards innovating the gameplay of their future titles. And all approved funding came from the NCBR(National Center for Research of Development) in what is assuredly part of Poland’s grand endeavor to expand its most profitable industry.
When all is said and done, our future could be looking to Poland for the best in what gaming has to offer. Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt RED received 30 million PLN (Polish currency) out of a total 116 million allocated to developers. And as a direct result, we may see the first of their new innovations implemented in Cyberpunk 2077, their next highly anticipated title slated for 2017-2021. Cyberpunk 2077 represents their first project with multiplayer features, which could definitely be apart of their request for “Seamless Multiplayer” funding. But while development for that is underway, we can expect GWENT: The Witcher Card Game to hit the market.
Check back for all the latest regarding CD Projekt RED and other developers. Until then, happy holidays.
