Hungribles Review (iPhone)

It is time to get hungry with yet another “fling the object” game.  This time around, Futuremark delivers the game Hungribles compatible with iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 3rd gen (32GB and 64GB models only) and iPod touch 4th gen.

I had the opportunity to play the game on the iPhone 4.  After some playtime with the game there is no question Hungribles does not win a gold medal, but the few unique qualities it does posses should have you coming back for more.

If you are ready to spend a couple bucks for a flashy, cute, and charming experience, then Hungribles deserves your attention.  I hate to compare the game to Angry Birds but the reality is Angry Birds influential gameplay is something we see in many iOS games.  Hungribles is no different.

Hungribles uses the classic three-star award system; but adds its own twist.  After you finish a level, you are awarded with a star score, as well as a cute little creature holding a bowl.  Once the bowl fills up with jewels you are awarded a score.  After you have finished multiple levels, a small storyline of pictures will tell you what you are next about to encounter. This is where the game shines.  The little script’s are short, but the charm and originality of the illustrations had me playing on with some enthusiasm.

The object of the game is to feed the small animals floating on screen.   With the purple jewel, you fire with your mushroom launcher.  Seems a bit bizarre but it works in its own unique way.  Bouncing jewels that disobey the law of gravity is the name of the game and somehow I was captivated. The only issue I came across with the game mechanics was the amount of difficulty it took to accurately place my shot. The instructions told me to use multiple fingers to give my shot more precision.  Yet my attempts to move the launcher with two fingers only gave it less accuracy.

Visually, Hungribles is an outstanding looking game. Clearly, there was a great deal of creativity put into the games artwork. The game will charm you with its cute characters, colourful stages, and glittery animations.

Overall, Hungribles is much like the most elegant meal you will find a fancy restaurant. The presentation is mind blowing, and depending on your taste buds, you may find the actual eating experience either good, or amazing. A two to three dollar price tag is well worth what you get.
