Recently I reviewed Fallen Enchantress:Legendary Heroes, by Stardock. One of the DLC packs that was released around the same time as the game was the “Map Pack DLC”, which as its name implies, adds more maps and variety to the randomly-generated maps to this already content-rich game. You are able to access these maps when starting up a new game, by selecting the load option on the map options screen. When you select one of these new maps the size and layout is predetermined. You can still tinker with all the other gameplay options, but I found what was pre-set for each map worked out well. This DLC adds five new maps to the existing group. Here’s what you can expect from them:
Clash
This is the smallest map of the DLC, where you fight a single opponent on a well-balanced playfield. It’s still fun to explore, and there is even a chance to find a boat with which to explore other smaller islands on the map. A good map overall for a quicker gaming experience
Crucible
A slightly larger map than Clash, but not by much, and this time around you will have four opponents. The map is still balanced well, where the goal is to take control of the centre of the map and then take out your competition. Definitely a map for those who like confrontations.
DustBowl
I hope you like monsters, because this map is full of them. You also have to face four opponents who are gunning for you. There are limited resources too on this medium sized map, so all I can say is good luck!
The Wildlands
A fairly large map that pits you against six opponents. It seemed well-balanced, and once again full of things that want to kill you in one way or another. So make sure you have a good army built up before venturing far from your kingdom.
Anthys
The largest map included in the DLC. It is twice the size of the largest map found in the game overall. There will be six opponents somewhere on the map, all trying – like you – to take total control of the world. This is the perfect map for those who really want a long, deep gaming experience.
So is this DLC map pack worth the extra money for Fallen Enchantress: Legendary Heroes owners? Well, when you take into consideration the $5 dollar price tag, this Map Pack is good bang for the buck. Simply put, the added content should keep you coming back for quite some time. I look forward to more DLC from the gang at Stardock in the future.
