Day 1: Power Rangers: Legacy Wars
Power Rangers: Legacy Wars is the one game out of the trio that I wasn’t as knowledgeable about aside from the license it’s based on. The overall tournament, a single elimination best-of-seven 1v1 match with eight players, turned out to be the most fun to watch and kept my attention throughout. At its simplest, Legacy Wars is a straightforward fighting game but Mobile Masters added some rules to the mix to keep the brawling fair and balanced. Before each match players can ban one leader and one assist. That means no player may use those characters for the rest of the round, essentially dwindling down the character roster with each individual battle. Furthermore, warriors can only be used once per match. As matches got closer and closer to a game seven, both players are forced to show their range and versatility with a variety of characters. With these rules in place, the Power Rangers: Legacy Wars tournament brought intensity, drama, and a lot of excitement.
Eight competitors entered the ring so to speak, playing in a best-of-seven single elimination tournament. During the quarterfinals, each player used the game’s energy meter to their own advantage while also juggling the various Strikes, Breakers, and Disrupter moves. Jonathan Snow (yes, that is his real name!) proved his ability, almost effortlessly blowing past Lordinblack with powerful moves, counters, and using Assists at the most opportune times. The opening match between DTPNIGHT7 and JaySoSavage both used Koragg in a heavyweight battle that finished in record time with the latter coming out the victor in the match but sadly, lost the entire round in six games. But it was the battle between GreatZWarrior and DunkSB412 that offered a nail-biting game seven win for DunkSB412 and a Game 6 that went without a knockout where the winner was decided based on hit point percentage.
In the semi-finals, Jonathan Snow continued powering through, sending Nyyankeesrd home in six games, showing his skill in huge combos and smart compliments through Assists. Snow would remain a fan favorite throughout the night, even grinning after every match, win or loss. He’s confident and is a worthy Power Rangers: Legacy Wars pro. That is until he faced off against DunkSB412 who finished his semifinals against DTPNIGHT7 in a routine 4-2 win.
In the finals, these two expert players gave it their all. Originally, Snow seemed to have it in the bag by taking an early 2-0 lead but he wasn’t able to fend off DunkS Korag in Game 3 which in a single attack, sliced away over half of his health bar. It was from then on that Snow struggled to defend his lead as DunkS came back to win the remaining games, taking home the cash money and cementing his title as Champion of Power Rangers: Legacy Wars.
The payouts were as follows:
- DunkSB412 $3,000
- Jonathan Snow $2,000
- GreatZWarrior $1,000
- DTPNIGHT7 $1,000
