Here we go again! Another huge month is looming in front of us when it comes to big releases. Last month we had to expand our ‘Big 5’ to seven games and this month we have to turn it all the way up to eleven. Ten huge games hit the market plus one special mention that we think deserves to get looked at. That’s a lot of game and a lot of empty wallets everybody so we hope you’re prepared. Be sure to check out the poll at the bottom and let us know which one game is your absolute must have for the month of October. And before we get yelled at… we know WWE 2K15 is hitting the PS3 and 360… but it’s going next-gen for November so look for it then!
DRIVECLUB (PS4)
This game is so exciting they have to write the title in ALL CAPS! Sony’s uber-delayed and much hyped racing game is ready to drop on to the PS4 console this October 7th and looks amazing. Evolution Studios, who previously worked on MotorStorm, is switching off-road for road racing! We managed to get our hands on this game not only at E3 but at PAX Prime as well and all signs are pointing to this being a stand out racing title. Start your engines PS4 owners and find some friends to put your club into high gear.
Alien: Isolation (PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One, PC)
It’s October, the scariest month of the year, so it only seems fitting that a couple survival horror games are hitting shelves. Set in 2137, 15 years after the original Alien movie, it follows the daughter of Ellen Ripley, Amanda, who is investigating her mother’s disappearance. Gameplay of this one that we’ve seen has been utterly terrifying resulting in a couple purchases of fresh Underoos by COG staffers. With no weapons and nothing more than a Ghostbusters Ectoplasm Reader looking device to light your way you are 100% helpless as you wander the space station Sevastopol. Pre-orders of the game even get DLC that features the original crew of the Nostromo voiced by the original cast! Put on your big boy pants this October 7th and gut yourself an Alien!
Project Spark (Xbox One)
Project Spark is the epitome of ambition in gaming. Essentially it is a game creator that allows people to make up their own games and movies or other content to be shared and modified amongst their fellow gamers. Utilizing every input from mouse and keyboard on PC to SmartGlass on your tablet gamers will be able to create worlds with ease. Perhaps a niche market that only the most creative of gamers will care to dive into Project Spark looks to be one of the more unique and interesting titles we’ve seen in a while. Do you have what it takes to create worlds on October 7th?
Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! (PS3, 360, PC)
Buckle up kids because Borderlands is going to the moon! The insanely successful Borderlands franchise is showing some last-gen love with four new playable characters (Claptrap!!!), even more loot and some new features that we’ve yet to see in a Borderlands game… like LASERS! Hands down one of the funniest and best games to play with your friends this shows that the PS3 and 360 aren’t quite dead yet. Of course one has to ask if it’s inevitable that this hits our current generation consoles sometime in the future. For the PS4 and Xbox One crowd, we can only hope at this time. No official announcement… yet.
NBA 2K15 (PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One, PC)
It’s pretty much a fact that the crown for best basketball sim goes to the 2K Sports series over rival EA Sports and NBA Live. Ever since having to scrap NBA Live 13 it seems like EA hasn’t been able to crawl back out of the mud. Featuring Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder on the cover NBA 2K15 brings with it the new MyLEAGUE mode and a host of gameplay improvements from last year. Tip off is on October 10th.
The Evil Within (PS3, PS4, 360, Xbox One, PC)
October’s second scary as hell game is Bethesda’s third person survival horror game The Evil Within. Developed by Tango Gameworks and directed by the godfather of survival horror himself, Shinji Mikami, it is sure to be terrifying experience. Follow Detective Sebastian Castellanos as he journeys straight into hell itself while investigating some grisly murders. We played it. It’s scary and then some. Do you have the stones to take it on?
Lords of the Fallen (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
This next-gen hack and slash RPG will appeal to the Dark Souls crowd but will be a little bit more accessible. While still difficult it’s not nearly as punishing. InLotF players take on the role of Harkyn, a sinner of the highest degree, and his quest for redemption. It’s up to him to save the world from evil. It makes sense to send your most badass bad guy to kick the crap out of other bad guys doesn’t it? It looks gorgeous in action and requires a patient hand… and we can’t wait to play it on October 28th!
Civilization: Beyond Earth (PC)
Sid Meier’s long running Civ franchise goes to space in this spiritual successor to Alpha Centauri on October 28th. A turn based, 4x strategy game developed by Firaxis Games it is the first of the Civilization series to take place in the future. Announced way back in April of 2012 the wait is almost over.
Bayonetta 2 (Wii U)
The Bayonetta series jumps ship and gives the Wii U one of its best (and damn near only) huge third party exclusives. We’re not sure if this will sell systems necessarily but it is definitely something for Wii U owners to get excited for. The hack and slash series from Platinum Games looks absolutely stunning in action and has a lot of hype behind it. Is this one of the first titles that hardcore gamers can brag about on their oft criticized Wii U console?
Sunset Overdrive (Xbox One)
In one of the biggest surprise moves in gaming we see long standing PlayStation developer Insomniac Games releasing a game exclusively for Microsfot’s Xbox One platform. An over-the-top, never-stop-moving, monster murdering action fest Sunset Overdrive has a lot of pressure on it to be one of the key franchises in the Xbox One lineup. A catastrophic event has left your city overrun by mutants, but while most perish or transform, you flourish. It turns out your calling isn’t picking up trash or serving food, it’s mutant destruction. Dropping on October 28th this is one of our personal favourites of the month! Also… watch this trailer, it’s HILARIOUS.
And our SPECIAL MENTION – Styx: Master of Shadows (PS4, Xbox One, PC)
This isn’t your usual AAA title but we really think it’s worth mentioning just the same! Coming to PC on October and 7th and in the future to both the Xbox One and PS4 consoles it follows Styx (the goblin, not the kick ass 80’s rock band) and his quest to steal the heart of a World Tree. A stealth video game at heart the first goblin ever is a master of sneaking, thieving and murdering. It looks like a lot of fun and we can’t wait to get a little deeper into this one when it’s released!
