PS5 Pro – 3 Things I Love (And Hate) About Sony’s New Console

Hate List

1) File Transfer Process Takes Too Long

One downside of the PS5 Pro’s release is the lengthy file transfer process. The process itself is clear and easy but transferring data from an old PS5 to the PS5 Pro can be painfully slow. Unless you’re hardwired with an Ethernet connection, you could be looking at up to 16 hours to complete the process. I get it there are many variables. My internet speed ain’t the greatest and my PS5 Pro was a couple of rooms away from my base PS5, but 16 hours?!? For a console that’s designed for high performance, a more efficient file transfer system would have been ideal, especially for gamers eager to jump into their new setup quickly. For parents, I recommend unboxing and setting it up before the big day if it’s a holiday gift.

2) No Stand or Disk Drive Included is a Bummer

Despite its hefty price tag of $699.99 USD, the PS5 Pro doesn’t include a stand or a disk drive. For those who prefer physical media, the absence of a disk drive might feel limiting, especially when the PS5 and its predecessors catered to both physical and digital options. Even after transferring the game, I couldn’t play God of War Ragnarok on my PS5 Pro, which was a huge letdown. I needed the damn disk. I am sure there is a workaround and I’ll spend time Googling it but c’mon man. Buying these items separately adds to the cost, which is frustrating considering the console’s already beefy price tag.

3) Expensive AF

At nearly $700 USD, the PS5 Pro is no small purchase. While it’s certainly a premium device with cutting-edge features, the price might be a deal-breaker for some. Gamers in Canada, the UK, and Europe are also looking at even steeper prices due to currency differences, making this an elite investment that might not be justifiable for every player. And with the base PS5 offering a disk drive and coming in significantly cheaper, is the Pro necessary? The jury’s out. The PS5 Pro includes impressive technology and welcome upgrades, but it’s not exactly a wallet-friendly option for the average gamer.

Final Thoughts

The PS5 Pro is an incredible piece of gaming technology, with fantastic processing power, a stunning visual experience, and a slick-looking design. It was clearly built with hardcore players and game creators in mind, and its performance upgrades like the enhanced GPU, faster memory, and AI-driven upscaling will surely appeal to anyone looking for that ultimate PlayStation experience. However, certain drawbacks, like the lengthy file transfer process, lack of bundled extras, and its premium price, might make some gamers hesitate.
