IEM Cologne 2025: Playoff Recap
IEM Cologne 2025, affectionately dubbed the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, brought utter chaos, nail-biting comebacks, and clutch moments that captivated 18,000+ roaring fans. This weekend truly was one of the most unforgettable tournaments in CS2 history! And I got to witness it live – thanks, Intel! Quarterfinals and Semifinals are best of three, and the Grand final is best of five. Here’s how the madness unfolded.

Quarterfinals: Overtime Overload
Natus Vincere (NAVI) vs MongolZ kicked off with an overtime thriller. MongolZ came out swinging after NAVI’s early lead on their map pick, but NAVI fought tooth and nail through triple overtime to take Inferno, 22-18. Ancient looked like a NAVI stomp at 12–1, but MongolZ pulled off a 6-round streak to keep their hopes and dreams alive before NAVI ultimately shut the door on the MongolZ for good. NAVI moved on to the semifinals to play Team Spirit.
Meanwhile, MOUZ vs Furia gave us an all-out brawl. MOUZ took the first victory in double overtime on Train, but Furia answered back on Mirage with smart momentum control. And yes, this match also went to double overtime. MOUZ and Furia had fans on the edge of their seats. With a win for each team and with everything on the line, MOUZ and Furia battled it out in a final showdown on Inferno. It was neck-and-neck until MOUZ pulled ahead for the series win. MOUZ moved on to face the winners of last year – Team Vitality.
Semifinals: Major Upset?
NAVI vs Team Spirit was a wild ride. NAVI started strong on Mirage, going up 7-1, but Team Spirit clawed back to take the win 13–11! Then NAVI again took it to Team Spirit at first, taking another commanding lead 7-0 before Team Spirit started getting back into it. At the end of the first half, it was 10-2 for NAVI. They continued to dominate Team Spirit in the second half, making it 12-2, but Team Spirit made an incredible comeback, winning 7 straight rounds. Ultimately, NAVI was able to hold off the surge by Team Spirit to force Game 3. But it seemed the momentum shift for Team Spirit at the end of game 2 was enough to get into NAVI’s heads. Ancient was all Team Spirit. Donk popped off as usual; they won 10 straight rounds and NAVI was left reeling. Final score? 12-6. Team Spirit was Grand Final–bound.

The second semifinal game between MOUZ and Team Vitality was one for the ages. MOUZ, having lost the last 7 straight games against Team Vitality, was looking to break the curse. After a rocky Mirage start where they were down five rounds, MOUZ stormed back to win 13–9. On Train, it was a close first half, with MOUZ taking the lead 7-5. After the break, MOUZ looks refreshed, and they go full throttle, building a dominant lead at 12-6. But you can never really count Team Vitality out, right? They won the next two rounds to keep themselves alive, but MOUZ just wasn’t having it. Once they took the lead, they weren’t looking back. The crowd goes wild! MOUZ just did what many thought was impossible this year. Team Vitality, the winners of Cologne IEM 2024, are out. MOUZ has punched their ticket to the Grand Final to face off against Team Spirit!
Grand Final: Total Domination
It all comes down to this. MOUZ vs Team Spirit in the Grand Final of IEM Cologne 2025. Will MOUZ complete the miracle run, or will Team Spirit’s cool composure seal the deal? Either way, the Cathedral of Counter-Strike will crown a new champion! So who was it? Let’s get into the action.
In the IEM Cologne 2025 Grand Final, Team Spirit and MOUZ threw down for the fifth time this year. Considering the crowd’s reaction and the fact they’d lost 3 of those 5 matches, I’m going to say Team Spirit were the underdogs in this arena. But as they say, never count an underdog out. Team Spirit came out swinging on Mirage. They took a massive 10-2 lead at the end of the first half and didn’t take their feet off the gas – ending game 1 at 13-7. Game 2 on Ancient looked like a sure thing for MOUZ as they crushed Team Spirit on an eight-round winning streak, leading them to be up 11-5. Unfortunately, that didn’t last long as Team Spirit, fueled by some ridiculous plays by Donk, rallied hard to steal the map 13-11. And despite a great 3-0 start for MOUZ on Nuke, it just was not their day. 13-6 for Team Spirit. A clean sweep. A trophy secured. Team Spirit are your IEM Cologne 2025 winners! And as a cherry on top, Donk is the IEM Cologne 2025 MVP.
