5 Things Bungie Needs to do to Improve Destiny

Destiny is an amazing game, our reviewer loved it, but regardless there are some mixed reviews that seem to be out there. If nothing else, it’s one of the most ambitious projects any developer has ever taken on. With new content constantly rolling out, it’s going to keep me occupied for a looooooooooong time. However, there are a few nagging issues that I have with the game and I hope that with all this new content coming, Bungie can address a few things to make Destiny even better. If you haven’t played the game, there will be spoilers ahead, so be prepared if you venture forth.

New Mid-Missions

If you’ve played Destiny, then you know that around the mid-point of every mission, Ghost (aka Dinklebot, aka Tyrion) tells you that he needs to hack a computer. Whether it is a door, an archive or whatever, he has to do some computer wizardry and you have to hold off wave after wave of various foes for exactly 3 staggered waves of time. There may not be a huge story that goes along with Destiny, but after the 7th time this happened, everyone started laughing any time you were asked to deploy Ghost. Give us something else to do, Bungie, it’s already too repetitive.

New Story Points

Suffice it to say, I was a little disappointed when I got to Venus and met with the mysterious Exo stranger and she revealed the dark secret that has been threatening humanity – they copied the Mass Effect story! Okay, so I’m simplifying it a little bit, but come on! Evil robots bent on the destruction of all life in the galaxy that look like the little guy from Star Wars? It’s pretty close, Bungie.  As more content rolls out, maybe give me something more than a rehashed storyline that I’ve already sunk dozens of hours into. Aren’t there already enough Mass Effect comparisons?

The Crucible’s So Called ‘Level Advantages Disabled’

No, this isn’t going to be a rant about how much I hate the online component, despite the fact that, yes, there are guys on there who are far better at it than I am. But that’s the point, right? Iron sharpens iron and all that jazz. The thing that needs to be fixed is the ‘level advantages disabled’ part of it. I refute that claim. There’s no WAY that level advantages are disabled! Because how can I headshot a guy with a sniper rifle and he’ll still run off and then I got my head blown off right after? Or how can two of us run at each other, guns blazing and he die when I still have half a health bar? That certainly sounds like the higher level armour and guns win every time. So, you should actually disable level advantages if that’s what you say you’re going to do.

Go Intergalactic Planetary!

When you get a ship with a warp drive in the first hour, you’ll have to forgive me for thinking that I was going to fly around the galaxy. Instead, it was restricted to the solar system with killer bots, giant apes and two separate alien hordes. Maybe in one of the expansions, we can fly to a different galaxy and see some other worlds that aren’t ones that we see by switching on Cosmos.

Give Me a Damn History Lesson!

There’s this huge universe that you’re playing in that’s hundreds of years in the future with crazy aliens and terraformed worlds and not even Earth looks the same. There’s the Stranger, the Hive, the Fallen, the Awoken, the Black Garden, the Cabal, the Exo and the humans all occupying our very familiar solar system and yet, I couldn’t tell you anything about any of them. Yes, there’s the Grimore cards, but when I’m playing an in-depth game for hours and hours and hours, I really don’t want to have to log out (because there’s no pause button for some reason… YES THIS IS A JOKE!), go on my computer and find that particular card to read up on some back story.  On top of that, there are cards that are only unlocked by codes you can redeem that you have to track down yourself on whatever website you choose to find it on.  It’s a lot of work to do something that should be in game. Maybe instead of spending time being so very vague in dialogue, maybe tell me where the name ‘The Shattered Coast’ came from. Or where the Awoken came from or who and where they are for that matter. Or, even simply, what the difference between the Hive and the Fallen are and why they’re fighting. Because nothing is more annoying than having characters in game talk about a world that you never get to find out about.
